Indeed, My revelations were recited to you, but you used to back away ˹in disgust˺,

فكأنه قيل: ما السبب الذي أوصلهم إلى هذا الحال؟ قال:{ قَدْ كَانَتْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ } لتؤمنوا بها وتقبلوا عليها، فلم تفعلوا ذلك، بل { كُنْتُمْ عَلَى أَعْقَابِكُمْ تَنْكِصُونَ } أي: راجعين القهقري إلى الخلف، وذلك لأن باتباعهم القرآن يتقدمون، وبالإعراض عنه يستأخرون وينزلون إلى أسفل سافلين.
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
