When it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they reply, “No! We ˹only˺ follow what we found our forefathers practicing.” ˹Would they still do so,˺ even if their forefathers had ˹absolutely˺ no understanding or guidance?

﴿وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمُ﴾ أَيْ الْكُفَّار ﴿ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ﴾ مِنْ التَّوْحِيد وَتَحْلِيل الطَّيِّبَات ﴿قَالُوا۟﴾ لَا ﴿بَلۡ نَتَّبِعُ مَاۤ أَلۡفَیۡنَا﴾ وَجَدْنَا ﴿عَلَیۡهِ ءَابَاۤءَنَاۤۚ﴾ مِنْ عِبَادَة الْأَصْنَام وَتَحْرِيم السَّوَائِب وَالْبَحَائِر قال تعالى ﴿أَ﴾ يتبعونهم ﴿وَلَوۡ كَانَ ءَابَاۤؤُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ شَیۡـࣰٔا﴾ مِنْ أَمْر الدين ﴿وَلَا یَهۡتَدُونَ ١٧٠﴾ إلى الحق والهمزة للإنكار
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
