[Respondieron:] “El castigo de aquel a quien se le encontrase [la copa] en su equipaje debería ser que sea aprisionado. Así es como se castiga a los que cometen ese crimen”.

{ قَالُوا جَزَاؤُهُ مَنْ وُجِدَ فِي رَحْلِهِ فَهُوَ } أي: الموجود في رحله { جَزَاؤُهُ } بأن يتملكه صاحب السرقة، وكان هذا في دينهم أن السارق إذا ثبتت عليه السرقة كان ملكا لصاحب المال المسروق، ولهذا قالوا:{ كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الظَّالِمِينَ }
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
