˹Remember˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to place a successive ˹human˺ authority on earth.” They asked ˹Allah˺, “Will You place in it someone who will spread corruption there and shed blood while we glorify Your praises and proclaim Your holiness?” Allah responded, “I know what you do not know.” (30) He taught Adam the names of all things, then He presented them to the angels and said, “Tell Me the names of these, if what you say is true?” (31) They replied, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. You are truly the All-Knowing, All-Wise.” (32) Allah said, “O Adam! Inform them of their names.” Then when Adam did, Allah said, “Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you conceal?” (33) And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who refused and acted arrogantly, becoming unfaithful. (34)

Indeed, We created man from sounding clay moulded from black mud. (26) As for the jinn, We created them earlier from smokeless fire. (27) ˹Remember, O  Prophet˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being from sounding clay moulded from black mud. (28) So when I have fashioned him and had a spirit of My Own ˹creation˺ breathed into him, fall down in prostration to him.” (29) So the angels prostrated all together— (30) but not Iblîs, who refused to prostrate with the others. (31)

Allah asked, “O Iblîs! What is the matter with you that you did not join others in prostration?” (32) He replied, “It is not for me to prostrate to a human You created from sounding clay moulded from black mud.” (33) Allah commanded, “Then get out of Paradise, for you are truly cursed. (34) And surely upon you is condemnation until the Day of Judgment.” (35) Satan appealed, “My Lord! Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection.” (36) Allah said, “You will be delayed (37) until the appointed Day.” (38) Satan responded, “My Lord! For allowing me to stray I will surely tempt them on earth and mislead them all together, (39) except Your chosen servants among them.” (40)

Allah said, “This is the Way, binding on Me: (41) you will certainly have no authority over My servants, except the deviant who follow you, (42)

˹Remember, O  Prophet˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being from clay. (71) So when I have fashioned him and had a spirit of My Own ˹creation˺ breathed into him, fall down in prostration to him.” (72) So the angels prostrated all together— (73) but not Iblîs, who acted arrogantly, becoming unfaithful. (74) Allah asked, “O Iblîs! What prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My Own Hands? Did you ˹just˺ become proud? Or have you always been arrogant?” (75) He replied, “I am better than he is: You created me from fire and him from clay.” (76) Allah commanded, “Then get out of Paradise, for you are truly cursed. (77) And surely upon you is My condemnation until the Day of Judgment.” (78)

Satan appealed, “My Lord! Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection.” (79) Allah said, “You will be delayed (80) until the appointed Day.” (81) Satan said, “By Your Glory! I will certainly mislead them all, (82) except Your chosen servants among them.” (83) Allah concluded, “The truth is—and I ˹only˺ say the truth—: (84) I will surely fill up Hell with you and whoever follows you from among them, all together.” (85)

We cautioned, “O Adam! Live with your wife in Paradise and eat as freely as you please, but do not approach this tree, or else you will be wrongdoers.” (35) But Satan deceived them—leading to their fall from the ˹blissful˺ state they were in, and We said, “Descend from the heavens ˹to the earth˺ as enemies to each other. You will find in the earth a residence and provision for your appointed stay.” (36) Then Adam was inspired with words ˹of prayer˺ by his Lord, so He accepted his repentance. Surely He is the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful. (37) We said, “Descend all of you! Then when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows it, there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve. (38) But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs will be the residents of the Fire. They will be there forever.” (39)

Surely We created you, then shaped you, then said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who refused to prostrate with the others. (11) Allah asked, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” He replied, “I am better than he is: You created me from fire and him from clay.” (12) Allah said, “Then get down from Paradise! It is not for you to be arrogant here. So get out! You are truly one of the disgraced.” (13) He appealed, “Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection.” (14) Allah said, “You are delayed ˹until the appointed Day˺.” (15) He said, “For leaving me to stray I will lie in ambush for them on Your Straight Path. (16) I will approach them from their front, their back, their right, their left, and then You will find most of them ungrateful.” (17) Allah said, “Get out of Paradise! You are disgraced and rejected! I will certainly fill up Hell with you and your followers all together.” (18)

˹Allah said,˺ “O Adam! Live with your wife in Paradise and eat from wherever you please, but do not approach this tree, or else you will be wrongdoers.” (19) Then Satan tempted them in order to expose what was hidden of their nakedness. He said, “Your Lord has forbidden this tree to you only to prevent you from becoming angels or immortals.” (20) And he swore to them, “I am truly your sincere advisor.” (21) So he brought about their fall through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their nakedness was exposed to them, prompting them to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise. Then their Lord called out to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree and ˹did I not˺ tell you that Satan is your sworn enemy?” (22) They replied, “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly be losers.” (23) Allah said, “Descend as enemies to each other. You will find in the earth a residence and provision for your appointed stay.” (24) He added, “There you will live, there you will die, and from there you will be resurrected.” (25)

And indeed, We once made a covenant with Adam, but he forgot, and ˹so˺ We did not find determination in him. (115) And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who refused ˹arrogantly˺. (116) So We cautioned, “O Adam! This is surely an enemy to you and to your wife. So do not let him drive you both out of Paradise, for you ˹O Adam˺ would then suffer ˹hardship˺. (117) Here it is guaranteed that you will never go hungry or unclothed, (118) nor will you ˹ever˺ suffer from thirst or ˹the sun’s˺ heat.”  (119) But Satan whispered to him, saying, “O Adam! Shall I show you the Tree of Immortality and a kingdom that does not fade away?” (120) So they both ate from the tree and then their nakedness was exposed to them, prompting them to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise. So Adam disobeyed his Lord, and ˹so˺ lost his way. (121) Then his Lord chose him ˹for His grace˺, accepted his repentance, and guided him ˹rightly˺. (122) Allah said, “Descend, both of you, from here together ˹with Satan˺ as enemies to each other. Then when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray ˹in this life˺ nor suffer ˹in the next˺. (123)

And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who protested, “Should I prostrate to the one You have created from mud?” (61) Adding, “Do you see this one you honoured above me? If you delay my end until the Day of Judgment, I will certainly take hold of his descendants, except for a few.” (62) Allah responded, “Be gone! Whoever of them follows you, Hell will surely be the reward for all of you—an ample reward. (63) And incite whoever you can of them with your voice, mobilize against them all your cavalry and infantry, manipulate them in their wealth and children, and make them promises.” But Satan promises them nothing but delusion. (64) ˹Allah added,˺ “You will truly have no authority over My ˹faithful˺ servants.” And sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian. (65)

And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs, who was one of the jinn, but he rebelled against the command of his Lord. Would you then take him and his descendants as patrons instead of Me, although they are your enemy? What an evil alternative for the wrongdoers ˹to choose˺!

Indeed, Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of ’Imrân above all people ˹of their time˺.

Those were ˹some of˺ the prophets who Allah has blessed from among the descendants of Adam, and of those We carried with Noah ˹in the Ark˺, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those We ˹rightly˺ guided and chose. Whenever the revelations of the Most Compassionate were recited to them, they fell down, prostrating and weeping.

Indeed, the example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, “Be!” And he was!

Relate to them in truth ˹O Prophet˺ the story of Adam’s two sons—how each offered a sacrifice: one’s offering was accepted while the other’s was not, so he threatened ˹his brother˺, “I will kill you!” His brother replied, “Allah only accepts ˹the offering˺ of the sincerely devout. (27) If you raise your hand to kill me, I will not raise mine to kill you, because I fear Allah—the Lord of all worlds. (28) I want to let you bear your sin against me along with your other sins, then you will be one of those destined to the Fire. And that is the reward of the wrongdoers.” (29) Still, the other convinced himself to kill his own brother, so he killed him—becoming a loser. (30) Then Allah sent a crow digging ˹a grave˺ in the ground ˹for a dead crow˺, in order to show him how to bury the corpse of his brother. He cried, “Alas! Have I ˹even˺ failed to be like this crow and bury the corpse of my brother?” So he became regretful.  (31)
