En zij hadden jou je bijna doen afwenden van wat Wij aan jou geopenbaard hadden, zodat jij iets anders over Ons verzonnen had; dan hadden zij jou zeker als boezemvriend genomen!

ولقد قارب المشركون أن يصرفوك -أيها الرسول- عن القرآن الذي أنزله الله إليك؛ لتختلق علينا غير ما أوحينا إليك، ولو فعلت ما أرادوه لاتخذوك حبيبًا خالصًا.
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
